If you have a 6-quart Instant Pot, or are looking to buy one, then you should be aware that it is an excellent way to cook meals that are not only healthier but taste better too. Instant Pots are not only life-savers for homeowners who aren’t as cooking-savvy, but they also allow you to spend more time with family and friends.
These BBQ meals allow you to enjoy meat that is glazed in a delicious barbecue sauce. There are dozens of different flavors of sauce to choose from, from sweet, thick southern sauce with hints of honey and cinnamon, to tangy, and even spicy versions that will leave a tingle on your tastebuds. Some recipes call for handmade sauces, while others can allow you to use a sauce that you can buy at a store. Pick any sauce that you and your family love, or experiment with something new.
Barbecues can be enjoyed with all kinds of meats, including chicken, pork and beef. Today, we will show you our first delectable barbecue favorites that you can cook to perfection with an Instant Pot.
Instant Pot BBQ Pulled Pork
An all-time American favorite. This shredded pork with barbecue sauce can be served in between buns or in a bowl. Leftover pulled pork is great in an omelet or egg bake too. Use this recipe as an alternative to hamburgers or sloppy joe’s.
Prep Time: 40 minutes (20 minutes for marinade)
Cook Time: 90 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour, 50 minutes
- 2+ pounds pork roast.
- Your favorite spices or marinade (such as Worcestershire sauce, chili pepper, salt and/or pepper, etc.)
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 1/4 cups water or chicken stock
- Bottled barbecue sauce of choice
Step 1 – Begin prepping your workstation. Cut your pork roast evenly in two to make it easier to handle and fit in your Instant Pot. Use your preferred spice or marinade on your pork roast and season to taste (the more spices used, the stronger the flavor). Let it sit for around 20 minutes.
Step 2 – Turn on Instant Pot and set to ‘saute.’ Add vegetable oil into the Instant Pot. When hot, add the pork roast. Sear the pork on each side, about three minutes per side.
Step 3 – Add water or chicken stock.
Step 4 – Close the lid on your Instant Pot, make sure valve is closed and set it to “meat” or “stew.” Make sure that it is sealed tightly. Set timer for 90 minutes.
Step 5 – After 90 minutes are up, use natural pressure release or 10 minutes, then use quick release for the remaining pressure.
Step 6 – Put your pork roast into a bowl and shred it using forks, or using meat claws that will help you shred pork in no time.
Step 7 – Drain liquid (reserving ½ cup) from IP and place the pork back in. Add reserved liquid or add ½ cup plain water. Mix in your barbecue sauce of choice. Set the Instant Pot to “manual” and high pressure. Set the timer to five minutes. As the timer counts down, prepare your hamburger or sandwich buns.
Step 8 – After the timer reaches zero, use quick release to vent steam.
Step 9 – Serve and enjoy!
